Chinese tablet maker Hisense made a little splash by launching the Sero 7 line of low-cost tablets with Nexus 7-like specs in 2013. Now the company’s tackling the 8 inch tablet space with the Hisense Sero 8.
The new tablet’s already available for pre-order in the UK for about £90, which is $150 US… although the Hisense Sero 8 would likely be even cheaper if and when it comes to America.
The Hisense Sero 8 features an 8 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel IPS display with 5-point multitouch, a 1.6 GHz Rockchip RK3188T quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage.
The tablet runs Android 4.4 KitKat software, features a 4000mAh battery, and supports 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0. It has a 2MP rear camera and VGA front-facing camera.
While those specs aren’t particularly impressive, they should be good enough to handle most common Android tablet tasks… and they aren’t bad at all for an 8 inch, $150ish tablet.
Dont go by the specs. my sero 7 pro starts giving problems after 15 days. Wifi used to go off and on. So its no fun without wifi and the battery takes tooo long a time to get charged… 🙁 . I feel i have made a mistake by falling for the specs of this tab…
Well Hisense doesn’t sell their tablets in Canada anyhow so whoop-de-do. I tried for a long time to get a Sero 7 Pro and eventually, I gave up. The specs for the Sero 8 aren’t too appealing I’m afraid, even for the $150’ish price point. I’d have paid an additional $50 for a microSD slot and 2GB of internal RAM.
The Rockchip SOC is a good one but they went for the cheaper slightly wimpier “T” variant.
The rest is yawnsville, daddy-o.
Note to Hisense: Garner more success before attempting to cash in on it.
Any idea what the battery life is like? My experience with Rockchip chips is that they’re fast but burn through batteries very fast. I’ve rarely got more than 3 hours of use from the three Rockchip Tablets I’ve had, both dual and quad core. Mediatek chips are generally somewhat slower, but I get 9h of use from the Asus Memopad hd7 with one of their quad core chips.
I watched 3 movies during a plane trip and got around 6.5 hours of use in total…internet browsing and mails getting at least 9 hours
I think there is a microSD slot if you look at the photos
You are relevant captain! 😉 Thanks to you I looked up the specs…and indeed there is one:

Hisense sells in the US. I suspect this will be available in the US in the next few months.
True. Last I checked the Hisense 7″ Android tablets were in stock at my local Walmart.
According to Hisense Sales in an e-mail, the only way to get a Sero 7 currently is a refurb from Fry’s or the like.
According to an e-mail i got from Hisense sales, the Sero 8 is due out “thjis quarter” – which gives them slightly under two months.
I bought the Sero 8 yesterday from a Walmart store in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
