Barnes & Noble is offering deep discounts on the NOOK HD and NOOK HD+ tablets this week. The company’s latest 7 and 9 inch tablets normally sell for $199 and up, but right now you can buy a 7 inch model for $129 and up, and 9 inch models have prices starting at $149.

Those are pretty great prices for Android tablets with high resolution displays, reasonably fast processors, and support for the Google Play Store, whether you plan to buy apps, books, or other content from the NOOK Shop or not.

The discounts are available from a number of retailers, including:

The deals are expected to run for at least a week. This isn’t the first time B&N has marked down prices. The company ran the same sale a little over a month ago.

B&N’s NOOK HD is a 7 inch tablet with a 1440 x 900 pixel display, a 1.3 GHz TI OMAP 4470 dual-core processor, and 8GB of storage or more.

The NOOK HD+ is a 9 inch model with a 1920 x 1280 pixel display and a 1.5 GHz TI OMAP 4470 dual core processor and 16GB or more of storage.

Both tablets run a custom version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.  Up until recently the tablet was tied tightly to the NOOK Shop for apps and eBooks, but the latest NOOK HD and NOOK HD+ software brings access to the Google Play Store. That means you can choose from hundreds of thousands of apps, and even install the Amazon Kindle or Kobo book store apps if you’d like.

  1. I have the Nexus 7, Cube U30GT2, and the Nook HD+ (32G) which is my go to tablet.
Sharp display, easy to hold, good wifi range ,and can take a fall (at least in my case).
One thing that Nook failed to advertise it that it is also a 10 point touch screen, making it a very capable gaming tablet IMO, and the processor can and does keep up with the high pixel display as well as intensive graphics.
I purchased this from Walmart at the deep discounted price, and then shortly discovered the reason for the price slash being that it is being discontinued.
But..,.Being that the Nook update enables opening up to the Google playstore, I very much nonetheless am still happy with my purchase.
Good bang for your buck, especially for streaming.

  2. IT’S PRETTY OBVIOUS THE NOOK IS GOING TO BE EXTINCT VERY SOON AND B&N ANNOUNCED THEY ARE DROPPING SUPPORT OF THE DEVICE.

I bought one but ended up returning it… The screen is great. No doubt about it, BUT everything else is not so hot. It’s not user-friendly and the operating system is very limited, such as you can’t create folders to organize your stuff. Well, you can CREATE them, but the Nook doesn’t DISPLAY them. This has been problem for a while and they still haven’t fixed it. There are some other issues as well. Also, if you are buying it for books, B&N book downloads are priced as much as paperback versions..

  3. A great deal. HD+ is an amazing gadget. The screen is brilliant and the size is just perfect for reading pdf-s and any other activity…
