The Asus Eee PC 1000HE ships with a high capacity 8700mAh 6 cell battery. That’s about 24% more than the 6600mAh 6 cell battery that came with the original Eee PC 1000HE. So it stands to reason that the newer model should get better battery life, right?

There’ve been a number of reports that the Eee PC 1000HE does indeed get excellent battery life. I plan to put my review unit to the test this week. But I have no intention of doing a test that’s anywhere near as thorough as the one presented by French site Blogeee. Because it’d be nearly impossible to do a better job.

They ran 9 separate battery tests and managed to get between 6.5 and 9.5 hours of battery life under different usage conditions. In some tests they watched videos with the screen at 70% brightness and the WiFi off, while in other tests they surfed the web and watched YouTube videos with the brightness set to 100% and the WiFi on.

Other variables included adjusting the processor speed, plugging a USB mouse in, editing OpenOffice.org docs, and reading data from USB flash drives,
