Chinese device maker Xiaomi’s latest budget smartphone features a 5 inch, 1280 x 720 pixel display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. The Xiaomi Redmi 3 also has a 4,100 mAh battery, a microSD card slot, a 13MP rear camera, and a 5MP front camera.

But the most impressive thing about the phone is its price: the Xiaomi Redmi 3 sells for  ¥699, which is about $106 US.

Xiaomi says the phone’s rear camera supports phase detection auto-focus, which allows it to focus in one tenth of a second. And the microSD card slot can also be used as a nano SIM card slot if you want to use the phone with two different networks (there’s also a micro SIM card slot).

At launch the phone will be exclusively available in China, but Xiaomi does sell some of its phones in other markets including India, Brazil, and Singapore. The company eventually plans to enter the US market as well. There’s no telling if the Redmi 3 will make it to the US, but it gives us a good idea of what to expect from the company: decent specs for a low price.

Xiaomi is also expected to launch a new flagship phone in February. The upcoming Xiaomi Mi5 will likely be a more powerful (and somewhat more expensive) phone featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and other premium hardware.

  1. We got a xiaomi as gift from travelling friends…didn’t try it out it two days ago…urgently need hep with this as otherwise our friends will return it to the seller…been trying for two days now…I am downloading apps for my Redmi using alldownloadapk.com, apkmonk.com
and apkmirror…it came without the google playstore….anyone know how
I can get the playstore as well…I always thought the playstore was
    part of Android itself….

  2. Sadly, if this come to the USA at $150. Ppl will just assume it’s a pos because of the low price tag. Normal consumers here doesn’t even know how to read specs.

  3. Only stands out because of the battery but others can spend an extra buck there too and in all fairness others (like Lenovo) started the big battery trend a year ago.
