Cheap fitness trackers are so plentiful these days that it’s be tough to cover the launch of every new model at Liliputing. But I’ve got a soft sport for Xiaomi’s Mi Band lineup, which I found offer a lot of bang for the buck when I replaced my Fitbit with a $35 Mi Band a few years ago.
Xiaomi’s new Mi Band 7 goes up for pre-order in China on May 31, and it still has a starting price under $40. But the latest model features a bigger display, an updated user interface, and support for continuous blood oxygen monitoring. It will probably cost a bit more when it hits international markets, but it still looks like a pretty decent option if you’re looking for a budget-friendly activity tracker.
The Mi Band 7 has a 1.62 inch AMOLED display, a waterproof design that’s rated for up to 5ATM (meaning you can wear it while swimming), and support for all-day heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen monitoring, and sleep tracking.
It has a 180 mAh battery that Xiaomi says should be good for up to 14 days of run time, although you may get less than that if you use some of the continuous monitoring features.
Like most fitness trackers, the Mi Band 7 is meant to be paired with a phone over Bluetooth so you can sync your data to a mobile app. Some models also support NFC. But there’s no support for GPS on this budget tracker.
Last year’s Mi Band 6, by the way, has a 1.56 inch display and a 125 mAh battery, which seems to come out as a wash in the end: that model also gets up to 14 days of battery life.
