Samsung is adding yet another Android tablet to its lineup, and this time Samsung means business. Literally. The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active is a rugged 8 inch tablet aimed at business customers.
It’s designed for use in retail, transportation, and other situations where a tablet isn’t likely to be treated with kid gloves.
The Galaxy Tab Active features a anti-shock case designed to protect the tablet from a 4-foot fall. It’s also IP67 dust and water resistant for use in the rain or in hot, cold, or dusty environments.
The cover also has a slot for a pen which Samsung calls a C-Pen. It lets workers write or interact with the tablet even when you’re wearing gloves.
Samsung says the tablet’s 4450mAh battery should power the tablet for 8 to 10 hours, but you can also detach the rear panel and swap out batteries without even turning off the tablet or interrupting your work.
There’s also a POGO pin for charging the tablet with a dock without worrying that you’ll damage the micro USB port by constantly plugging and unplugging cables.
Other features include 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a microSD card reader, a 3.1MP rear camera and 1.2MP front camera, a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, and an 8 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel TFT LCD display.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active features 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and NFC. It runs Google Android 4.4 KitKat and features Samsung’s KNOX security software.
The tablet measures 0.4 inches thick and weighs 13.4 ounces.
