Lenovo is updating its Miix line of 2-in-1 Windows tablets this year, with a new model sporting a 12 inch, 2880 x 1920 pixel display, an Intel Kaby Lake processor, and pen and finger support.
It’s called the Miix 720, and it’s coming in April for $1000 and up. But Lenovo is showing off it off a bit early at the Consumer Electronics Show.
The tablet comes with a detachable keyboard that’s more than a bit reminiscent of the Type Cover that’s available for Microsoft Surface tablets. And like a Surface tablet, the Miix 720 has a built-in kickstand.
But Lenovo’s kickstand hinge has the same watchband-style design used on some of the company’s Yoga convertible laptops, and it provides a lot of control over the screen angle, since the hinge stays firmly in place whether the screen is virtually perpendicular to the keyboard or close to even with it.
The Miix 720 is 1.7 pounds, which makes this 12 inch tablet about the same weight as a first-gen Apple iPad (which had a 9.7 inch display). It’s a bit heavy to hold in one hand for an extended period, but I could easily see resting the tablet on my lap while surfing the web or reading eBooks or periodicals.
The tablet and keyboard together have a combined weight of 2.4 pounds.
Lenovo will offer models with up to a Core i7 processor, up to 16GB of RAM, up to 1TB of storage. The tablet has a 41 Wh battery, USB 31 Type-C, USB 3.0, and USB 2.0 ports, front and rear cameras, a microSD card slot, and a 41 Wh battery.
