The Dell Streak is a handheld Android device that has a little bit of an identity crisis. You can make phone calls on the Streak using AT&T’s network, but the 5 inch display makes the Streak much larger than a typical Android smartphone — although not really all that much bigger, so you could still hold the device up to your head if you really want to. So is it a big phone or a tablet? Who knows. But here’s what we do know now… Dell plans to launch a larger version with a 7 inch display. Try holding that one up to your head to make a call.

There aren’t many official details about the new tablet yet. The Wall Street Journal reports that Dell CEO Michael Dell today confirmed that a 7 inch Android tablet is in the works, but the paper wasn’t able to get any additional details about the specs, price, or release date.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Dell’s plans for a whole line of tablets. In April, a series of photos showing 7 and 10 inch models even started making the rounds. But this is the first time we’ve heard anything from Micheal Dell himself, and I suspect that he wouldn’t have said anything about the 7 inch tablet if it wasn’t expected to ship relatively soon… perhaps by the end of the year?

Dell did say that the 5 inch Streak would soon be available for purchase at Best Buy stores in the US.
