Computer maker CompuLab has been building tiny, low-power desktop computers for a few years. But up until now most of the company’s little desktops have been built around Intel Atom or ARM-based processors.
Now CompuLab is preparing to launch the Intense PC, a mini-desktop computer with a powerful 2nd generation Intel Core i-series processor.
The Intense PC will still be a tiny computer with passive cooling. That means there won’t be a fan inside the case, which also means that the Intense PC won’t just be small, it will also be quiet.
CompuLab plans to start selling Intense PC models in the second quarter of 2012, with prices starting at $399.
The computer measures 7.5″ x 6.3″ x 1.57″ and supports a 2.5 inch hard drive or solid state disk and up to 16GB of DDR3 RAM in two SODIMM slots. It will be available with a choice of processors, including:
- 1.4 GHz Intel Celeron 827E CPU with Intel HD 2000 graphics
- 1.1 GHz Intel Celeron 847E CPU with Intel HD 2000 graphics
- 1.3 GHz Intel Core i3-2340UE CPU with Intel HD 3000 graphics
- 1.5 GHz Intel Core i7-2610UE CPU with Intel HD 300 graphics
The Intense PC also has 2 eSATA ports, an mSATA socket, 2 USB 2.0 ports and 2 USB 3.0 ports.
It has 7.1 channel audio with S/PDIF input and output and mic and line jacks, HDMI output, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and Bluetooth 3.0.

This looks like competition to Mac mini. This is bout time some one should compete with Mac Mini market place. So far only Mac makes these wonder mini machines.
It’s a handsome device, seriously. I like the way the case is used as part of the cooling system–nice to see form following function, and a whole lot of function for such a tiny package, with the added advantage that a burglar might mistake it for a router and leave it behind 😉
