At last year’s Consumer Electronics Show ZTE introduced an Android device during CES that you could use both as a portable video projector and as a mobile hotspot. It launched in July as the ZTE LivePro.

Now ZTE is preparing to launch a new WiFi-only model. The ZTE SPRO is basically the same device, but without the hotspot feature. It’s available for pre-order for $400, and should hit the streets January 6th.

The SPRO features a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of storage (plus a microSD card slot and USB port), WiFi, Bluetooth, and a 4 inch WVGA display with a touch panel that allows you to interact with the projector controls.

Since the device runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, you can stream content from Android apps. Load movies, PowerPoint files, or other content on a USB or microSD card, connect it to the projector, and you can beam videos or presentations to a large screen without connecting a phone or PC.

There’s an HDMI port, and a 100 lumen projector that you can use to project images from 10 inches to 120 inches.

The SPRO has a rechargeable battery good for up to 2.5 hours of use over HDMI. You can also use the SPRO as a power bank. Plug in your phone or tablet and you can recharge your mobile device using the projector’s battery.

  1. Everyone nowadays has a smartphone… no need to put android on the projector and lower its costs… they should instead add widi, miracas, airplay and mhl support

    1. the projector should have it’s own computer just like appletv, roku, chromecast. i dont want my phone will have another extra work such as decoding audio and push the video via wifi.

Phone can only be used as remote control.

  2. How can you sell a projector without specifying its resolution? The ZTE web site is completely mum on that critical spec. Apparently they’re ashamed of it, and don’t want anyone to know.

    1. That seems to be the strategy with all low cost projectors. Advertise them as “HD-ready” and never mention a word that its resolution is only “320×400” or similar.

  3. It’s the best looking mini-projector that I’ve ever seen. Don’t know if I’d ever need a device like this but this one is the one I’d look at if I did. A cellphone docking projector base would make more sense to me though but then again, I want a docking cellphone radar detector for my car.

    1. If hotels keep switching to “Hospitality TV’s” where they keep locking out the HDMI, then I’d be interested in getting a mini handheld projector to go with my firetv/chromecast sticks.

    2. This is a horrible deal. They don’t provide projector specs but the old one was 480×800 and that is ridiculous at 400$
