Smartphones with big, high-resolution displays are all the rage these days, but those screens are power hungry, which means you often need a big battery (and/or an energy-sipping processor) if you want all-day battery life.

How about a 5,000 mAh battery? That’s what ZTE is packing into its Nubia Z17 smartphone.

It should launch in China on March 21st for 2,699 RMB, or about $390.

Update: The Nubia Z17 is official, and it turns out the phone has a Snapdragon 835 processor, up to 8GB of RAM, and up to 128GB of storage. But it has a 3200 mAh battery rather than a 5,000 mAh battery as expected.

The phone’s other specs are pretty much what you’d expect from a device in that price range. It has a 5.5 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of of storage, and a MediaTek Helio P10 processor.

There’s a microSD card slot, a fingerprint reader on the back of the phone, and a 13MP rear camera. It also has dual SIM support.

It’s not clear if ZTE plans to sell the Nubia Z17 outside of China anytime soon, but some of the company’s Nubia-branded devices have been sold in the US before.

  1. With mediatek inside, 5000mAh is just ok for 2days of use = 3000mAh with snapdragon. So nothing outstanding here.

  2. That actually seems excessive to me considering the Axon 7 went for like 400 out of the gate.
