The ZTE Axon is a smartphone with specs that rival those of flagship phones from other device makers, but a price that’s about $100 – $200 lower.

ZTE unveiled the Axon a few weeks ago, and now it’s available for purchased for $450.

The smartphone has  5.5 inch, 2560 x 1440 pixel display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. It has an aluminum case and runs Android 5.1 Lollipop software.

The Axon has a 3,000 mAh battery and support for quick charging. The unlocked GSM phone can be used on AT&T or T-Mobile’s networks in the United States.

On the back of the phone you’ll find a 13MP camera, and there’s a 2MP camera on the front. You can use the phone to shoot 4K video and the rear camera supports fast auto-focus and shutter speeds. The front camera has an 88 degree wide-angle front lens for fitting more people into your group selfies.

Like many of the latest high-end phones, the Axon does have (or lack) a few features that might turn off some potential customers. It doesn’t have a microSD card slot or removable battery. And the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor can be a mixed bag… it can be pretty fast at times, but it can also generate a lot of heat, which causes the processor speeds to be scaled back while the system cools off.

Still, if you don’t have your eye on an even cheaper phone like the upcoming $329 OnePlus 2 or $400 Motorola Moto X Pure Edition, the ZTE Axon seems like it offers a lot of bang for the buck when compared with the latest flagship phones from HTC, Samsung, LG, and Sony.

The ZTE Axon is available for $450 from AmazonZTE, the ZTE eBay store, and a few other retailers.

  1. 32GB and no microSD seems a bit strange. Either have 64GB built in or provide a microSD slot with 32GB only.
