Indian phone maker Micromax launched a subsidiary called Yu late last year, and partnered with Cyanogen Inc to offer phones with decent hardware and Android-based software at reasonably low prices. The first such phone was the Yureka: a $140ish smartphone with a 5.5 inch display, a quad-core processor, and a 720p display.

Now Yu is launching a new model with a higher-resolution display and a slightly higher price tag.

The Yureka Plus features a 5.5 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a micrsoSD card slot, and Cyanogen OS 12 (Android 5.0) software. It will be available in India starting July 24th, for 9,999 rupees, or about $157.

The phone has a 13MP rear camera, a 5MP front camera, and a 2,500 mAh battery.

Most of those features remain unchanged from the original Yureka, but in addition to the new display panel, the Yureka Plus is said to feature a higher-quality camera. The original Yureka has a Sony IMX135 sensor, while the Yureka Plus has a Sony IMX214 sensor.

While it’s not clear if Micromax/Yu have any plans to offer these low-cost phones in the US or Europe anytime soon, they’re some of the latest examples of the kind of hardware that can be offered at sub-$200 prices these days.
