It seems like just over a month has passed since XBMC 12 was released (because that’s how long it has been), but the developers of the popular media center software are already hard at work on XBMC 13.

The first alpha builds of XBMC 13 are available for download for Windows, Linux, OS X, Android, iOS, and Apple TV.

XBMC 13 alpha

This is pre-release software and odds are it’ll contain a number of bugs. If you’re a developer looking to help improve the software, or just someone who wants to try running bleeding edge software, you can download it now — but if you’re looking for a nearly flawless experience you might want to wait until XBMC 13 goes gold.

Like earlier versions of XBMC, the new software presents a full-screen user interface for music, movies, photos, and other content. You can manage your local collections of music, movies, TV shows, and more. You can also use plugins to access online video from sources including Amazon, Pandora, and Hulu.

So far XBMC 13 includes better support for UPnP playback, and improved Android app that uses the native Android audio controls and automatic screen rotation, and improved keyboard input in the iOS app.

You can read more about XBMC 13 alpha in the official announcement at the XBMC blog.
