A Chinese company called Shenzhen Wozo has developed a Windows tablet with an 8.9 inch display. This week, the tablet showed up at the FCC web site as the Woozoo tablet, which means it might be coming to the US.

The tablet has an 8.9 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel touchscreen display, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z530 CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 32GB SSD, a VGA camera, 2 USB ports, VGA output, and a SIM card slot (presumably for a 3G option). The Woozoo weighs less than 1.8 pounds.

The screen is confusingly described as resistive/capacitive. I don’t know if that means there will be two different options, or if there’s some new sort of hybrid technology at play. I’m betting it’s probably the former.

  1. Atom Z530 CPU = dead in the water.

Will manufacturers never learn? Come to think of it,
every manufacturer shiped Windows Vista, didn’t they?

    1. It depends on the price range but it’s not like manufacturers have many options right now in the x86 processor range to make a low cost tablet that doesn’t require a lot of cooling and huge batteries. Thus why many x86 tablets tend to be 10″ or larger, and cost significantly more than ARM based tablets.

Intel will be phasing out the Z-Series ATOMs but they will be continued to be sold until May 20, 2011, with final shipments going out as late as November 4, 2011…

So it may take till 2012 before we really start seeing the next gen solutions from Intel in the ultra low power and low cost range taking over from these older ATOM solutions…
