There has been a lot of buzz in the entertainment world lately about a reboot of the 1983 teen hacker drama WarGames, starring Matthew Broderick.

It turns out there isn’t a new WarGames movie in the works. According to a report from Variety, it’s getting turned into a game. More precisely, an “interactive video.”

The new choose-your-own-adventure style story will combine the “interactive elements of a video game with the cinematic experience of a movie.” There will be multiple outcomes that are completely based on choices the viewer makes throughout the story.

The reboot will have all new characters and a new storyline. The plot has yet to be developed, but the company promise that viewers will look forward to watching the movie again and again because they can actively change how it ends.

MGM is working with entertainment company Interlude, which specializes in interactive videos. The company has made a name for itself with music videos and advertisements. However, WarGames will be the first long-form content Interlude has been a part of.

The technology is relegated to the web and mobile devices. So, this WarGames reboot is definitely not coming to a theater near you.

With the rising popularity of virtual reality, it would really be something to be able to play this choose-you-own-adventure movie with full 360-degree video. Imagine combining the technology of Oculus Cinema with the interactive storytelling of Interlude. Talk about a fully immersive movie experience.
