This year Walmart started selling a line of cheap tablets under the Onn brand.

Walmart currently offers Onn tablets with 8 and 10.1 inch displays. But it looks like a 7 inch model is on the way.

As noted by Tablet Monkeys, a new Walmart-branded tablet showed up at the Bluetooth SIG website last week.

Aside from the fact that the tablet supports Bluetooth 4.2, the listing doesn’t tell us much… but it does provide a hardware version number… and after a little internet sleuthing, that led me to an FCC listing and a user manual for the tablet.

The Walmart Onn 7 inch tablet appears to be manufactured by Chnese company Lightcomm Technology, which also calls it the MID7015.

According to the user manual, the tablet has the kind of features you’d expect from a cheap tablet. It has just 16GB of built-in storage and a micro USB charging cable.

There is a microSD card reader, but it tops out at 128GB cards.

The tablet comes with a 5V/1A charger, so don’t expect fast charging either. It’s probably not going to last a very long time on a charge either — the tablet has just a 7.77 Wh, 2,100 mAh battery

The best thing about the tablet may be the software — it ships with Android 9 Pie and features the Google Play Store, unlike some other budget tablets.

Other features include 802.11b/g/n WiFi and front and rear cameras.

While there’s no word on the price, my guess is cheap.

Walmart’s current Onn tablet lineup includes:

  1. The Onn 7 inch Tablet, my husband just bought for me yesterday at Walmart. I really wish I had checked out the reviews first. Glad it was cheap enough because it definitely doesn’t work the greatest! The bottom half of screen doesn’t even work like its supposed to. Trying to click on numbers or notifications at page bottom and it closes the page! I really wish nowthat I had gotten a warranty! In the end I could of saved him the time of wasting his money if I had read the reviews before.

    1. I bought my son one for Christmas and his just stopped working the other night it comes on but you cant turn it off or restart it or anything like screen is frozen

  2. I just received my refurbished 8″ ONN. The price went up from $32, but it was still under $40 all in. So far it seems pretty nice. Having stock Android is much nicer than having to hack my Fire, though hacking is fun. 🙂

I hope WalMart gives Amazon some competition. That way we consumers will win.

  3. This probably just replaces the RCA Voyagers they have been peddling for a couple of years now. Probably $49.99 until Black Friday then $29.99.

  4. It’s a little discouraging to see the refurbished 8″ tablets so soon. They only recently starting selling these units and already they have an inventory of faulty devices. It feels that at $32 per refurbished device, they’re losing plenty of cash.

Was looking forward to the 7″ version but…

    1. Sounds like broken tablets only run a little slower than the models that work as designed. 🙂

    2. “Refurbished” doesn’t necessarily mean “faulty”… While there are other paths, most refurbished devices are returns – and people return otherwise perfectly good items every day for any number of reasons. Such devices have to be sold ‘refurbished’ because they can’t legally be sold as ‘new’… I’ve saved a boatload of $ by purchasing a number of ‘refurbished’ devices over the years and never had a problem. Most recently a Sony Xperia Z5 Compact smartphone that has worked flawlessly for nearly 3 years now.

An Onn 8” tablet is what it is… a cheap tablet. But, knowing it’s limitations, if I had a need for such a device I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up a refurbished one for $32.

      1. Yep, bought all of my last four mobile phones refurbished, and not a lemon among them. My LG G2 is still going strong in the hands of my mother (I’m still amazed at the quality of the G2’s screen when I see it), and currently still rocking my refurbished Pixel XL from over a year ago.
