The Oculus Rift virtual reality headset has made waves for changing the way we look at video games, movies, and other content — even though it’s not actually shipping yet.

But you might not actually need to spend a lot of money to get a virtual reality experience. This year Google introduced a foldable cardboard headset that uses your smartphone as its brains (and display). Samsung plans to launch a device called the Gear VR which does something similar — but with sturdier build quality and support only for Samsung phones.

Now Carl Zeiss wants in on the action. The company has unveiled the VR One: a $99 virtual reality headset that should work with a number of smartphones.

The VR One should hit the streets by Christmas time, and it’s available for pre-order now.

The headset is designed to work with phones featuring screens ranging from 4.7 inches to 5.2 inches in size. It comes with a drawer for the phone of your choice, although at the moment the company is only offering two models: one for the iPhone 6 and one for the Samsung Galaxy S5. More drawers should be available in the future, and if you want more than one drawer, you can add them to your purchase for $9.90 each.

  1. The smartphone should be placed horizontally under a cap’s shade, and there should be a 90 degree binocular loupe for watching the screen. In this way the face and outwards vision are not blocked.

  3. Ugh, i can already see that the drawer system will, perhaps, cover the flagship model of every big brand, and little else.
