Viewsonic is adding a 12.1 inch thin and light laptop to its PC lineup with the ViewBook 120. The company has been pumping out 10 inch netbooks for a little while, but this is the first 12 inch model with an Intel CULV processor.
The ViewBook 120 features a dual core 1.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU2300 processor and runs Windows 7 Home Premium. It has 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and the usual array of ports and jacks. One nice feature is that the laptop has an ExpressCard slot, which is something you don’t find on many netbooks these days.
The Viewsonic Viewbook 120 looks a lot like the company’s smaller netbooks. I was kind of disappointed to see that it doesn’t have a larger keyboard. The laptop has a 1280 x 800 pixel display and according to Sascha from Netbook News, it could run about $600.
You can check out Sascha’s hands-on video after the break.
Very happy with my Viewbook 120 except the following:
1) the angle the screen doesn’t open back far enough so on your lap the screen doesn’t point at your face – also on a table, you find yourself stooping down to view the screen
2) the left edge of the touchpad has no noticeably ridge so you will often move too far to the left and then find yourself wondering why the cursor is not moving
3) the pad mouse buttons also suffer from being too low profile, so again difficult to judge without looking where you are on the button
4) The USB ports have been installed upside down??
5) The Starsoft recovery software keeps putting messages up in Chinese? in the background. Now removed it.
