Motorola XOOM software update

It’s been almost a month since Motorola started pushing out an Android 3.2 software update for the WiFi-only version of the XOOM tablet. Now it looks like Verizon is getting ready to follow suit with the 3G version of Motorola’s flagship tablet.

The company has posted an update on its support page for the XOOM describing what you’ll get when you install the HTJ85 software update. While Android 3.2 isn’t mentioned by name, it looks like you’ll get the key feature in the latest version of Android: the ability to adjust the pixel density so that apps designed for smaller screens look better on the 1280 x 800 pixel tablet display.

But the most exciting feature in the software update is support for the microSD card slot that’s been taunting XOOM owners since the day they bought their tablets. Once you install the new software you’ll be able to browse an SD card for files, media, and documents.

Other updates include stability improvements in movie rentals, better HDMI output when viewing movie rentals, adaptive bit rate streaming for videos according to your available bandwidth, and security and Exchange ActiveSync improvements.

Verizon could begin rolling out the new software as soon as August 3rd.

The Motorola XOOM has a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor, a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, 1GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. Maybe one day it will have the long-promised 4G LTE mobile broadband radio as well.
