Hate having to enter a PIN or swipe a pattern every time you want to unlock your phone? Google’s Smart Lock feature for Android gives you a few ways to disable those security measures when certain conditions are met.

Trusted Places detects your location and lets you bypass the PIN/pattern screen when you’re at home, work, or another place where you feel safe. Trusted Devices lets you do the same when your phone is connected to a Bluetooth device like a smartwatch or Bluetooth speaker.

Now there’s also a Trusted Voice option.

Android Police reports Trusted Voice is rolling out to select users: if you don’t see it in your Smart Lock settings yet, you may just have to wait a little while for it to arrive.

Once you’ve got the option, just open the Security settings on your Android device, choose Smart Lock, and enable Trusted Voice.

Google notes that this feature isn’t as secure as some of its other security methods. But you can train your phone to recognize your voice so that hopefully snooping friends, family, or thieves won’t be able to unlock your device by talking to it.

  1. Hello i am using samsung s6 edge and i unlock my phone using my finger print but i can also unlock it by saying ok google .Problem is all my friend can unlock my phone when they say ok google as well witch is really retarded and i dont know where i can turn this useless feature off .

  3. So all an attacker need to is record your voice. Guess it is enough to keep the most casual of snoop out or a lost phone from being looted for useful info. And that is a valid threat model for some people, it would be ‘enough’ security. Remember, every security model doesn’t have to be designed to be proof against Nation State actors. The basic MasterLock bought from the nearest big box store on your garden shed will fall to many twelve year old juvenile delinquents but you still put one on.

Last time I checked a shovel, a hoe, a tree trimmer, garden hose etc. were not that valuable when it comes to accessing my personal information, bank accounts, contact, profile, or stealing my identity. I dunno, that’s me. Garden hose as a way to personal information? I haven’t put that information into my garden shed but what do I know.

  5. Government has already decided biometrics are not as secure as a PIN. You can be compelled to use your finger to unlock your phone, but they cannot compel you to enter your PIN,

  6. My Motorola already allows me to talk to it and access most apps. If needed, I just dictate my pin. Of course, if I’m not alone, I’m not going to dictate my pin.

  7. Might as well hand over your car keys to a thief if this sounds like a good idea. My car doors are locked, but here are my keys for it. Have fun. I’ll wait for a few years for this one thanks.
