The Tronsmart Vega S89 is a device that lets you run Android apps on a TV. There’s no shortage of such devices in the market, but the Vega S89 is one of the better models I’ve tested.

It’s fast, gets decent WiFi performance, ships with Android 4.4 KitKat software, and a TV-friendly user interface.

Geekbuying sells the Tronsmart Vega S89 for $99, but I’m giving away the one they sent me to review, so read on for details about how to win one for free!

tronsmart vega s89

This device features 2GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, a microSD card slot, 802.11n WiFi, and Bluetooh 4.0. It has an IR sensor and comes with a wireless remote control. You can hook it up to a TV with an HDMI cable.

It also has an Ethernet jack, an SPDIF port, 2 USB 2.0 ports, and a micro USB OTG port. While the Tronsmart Vega S89 is said to support 4K video playback, I haven’t had much luck getting it to play ultra HD videos. It does just fine with 1080 or 720p files though.

Here’s how to enter for a chance to win the Tronsmart Vega S89:

  • This contest is open to residents of the United States or anyone with a US shipping address.
  • A winner will be selected randomly.
  • Once a winner is notified, that person will have 48 hours to respond before we give up and select another name.

  2. I would love to join the other entrants in trying to win one of these android tv devices. Liliputing is the greatest mobile computing site on the web!

  3. I’ve been waiting for these boxes to get to the point that they can be used as a light general computing device, and I think they’re pretty much there now. I bought a stick a couple years ago and was pretty disappointed with the performance.

  4. Posting in hopes of winning one of these, because unless the chipset people and the XBMC /Kodi people can come to an accord over GPL compliance I’ll never buy one. And it is a such an attractive device for running XBMC on…

  5. l enjoy this site very much. Please continue reviewing these android TV boxes!

  6. Would sure beat the original XBOX for my streaming needs. XBMC worked great for years, but I feel it’s time for an upgrade. Cheers!

  7. Sure hope I win! I could use it to stream Hoopla content from my public library account.

  8. If only I could be randomly selected, I would be so happy. That’s what my South Park Craig meme would say here if I could make one right now. ;->

  9. Actually quite curious of these “TV boxes” since they add so many new functions to regular “dumb” TVs. Thanks for the giveaway! 😀

  15. For all the latest tech news I visit Liliputing on a daily basis. I love technology.

  16. I’d love to pair one of these up with the new touch screen monitor I just picked out for use with my Minix Neo X7 (and future systems I plan to purchase in the coming year).

Does anyone here know how this unit performs with Linux? Does it have hardware accelerated graphics in Linux? That will be the deciding factor in the choice of whether I would want to keep this unit for Android and reload my Minix, or if I’d go the other way around, or if I would bother modding either one. Android’s gotten pretty good in a lot of areas anyway. 🙂

  17. The smart TV I have (panasonic) has a rediculously slow interface…I have been wanting to try out an android smart tv.

  18. That’s a sweet little Android puck. I would love to win it.

  24. Should be interesting to see what happens when Android TV gets released… how these end up comparing and whether they get updated.

  25. Would be a great addition to the day room at the orphanage that I visit every Sunday (for real)

    1. That was the best game I had on Intellivision. A friend let me borrow it and then moved away, so I never was able to return it to him. One of the few games that actually made that weird controller work well. Having said all of that . . . boy, am I old.

  26. Though I am in Canada, I have sisters in the US and one’s coming home for X-mas…so ya, let there be some Tronsmart Vega S89 love!

    1. Yeah; she’ll sure be surprised if she receives the device at her home, only to find out that it was sent to her to bring to you. I sometimes wish that I had a friend or family member living in the United States to ship products to from Amazon.com when they’re not available on Amazon.ca.

    2. Fellow Canuck here…been thinking about one of these S802 boxes myself…

    1. My daily routine when I turn on my laptop is as follows:
