Toshiba is refreshing its Kirabook line of thin, light, powerful, and expensive laptops with a new model called the Toshiba Kira 102 which launches this week in Europe for 1,649 Euros. That’s about $2,175 US, but the laptop will likely be a little cheaper if and when it comes to America.

Like other members of the Kirabook family, the new Kira 102 features a 13.3 inch, 2560 x 1440 pixel display and a compact design: It measures 12.4″ x 8.1″ x 0.8″ and weighs less than 3 pounds.

Under the hood it’s powered by an Intel Core i7-4510U Haswell proessor.

The laptop features 8GB of RAM, a 256GB solid state drive, Windows 8.1 64-bit software, and up to 9 huors of battery life.

It has 3 USB 3.0 ports, HDMI output, an SD card reader, a 0.9MP webcam, 802.11ac WiFi, and Bluetooth 4.0.

Other features include Harman Kadon stereo speakers, a backlit keyboard, a touchscreen, and a brushed aluminum case. The high-resolution dispay is probably the laptop’s most distinguishing feature, packing 221 pixels per inch and featuring 176 degree viewing angles.

Still, priced at around $2000, the Kira 102 is an expensive laptop at a time when cheap models seem to fly off the shelves much more quickly. Still, it might be worth keeping an eye on this model — I suspect it’ll be available for much lower prices in 6-12 months when Toshiba’s got another new model to sell.

  1. I jnow this aint no gaming pc… but for this ridiculous price an HD 4400 seems very poor. It should have at least an NVIDEA 740M 🙁

  2. Couldn’t agree more with JustJames on the lack of an RJ45 port. I find this trend ridiculous. There’s no justification for it.

  3. For that money they should have included an Ethernet port. Then, I’d buy.
It can be on a dongle – I don’t care. And it has to be able to PXE boot.
So, without it, thanks, but no thanks.

  4. Isn’t this just the 2014 Haswell Kirabook? Maybe a slight CPU bump from i7-4500U to i7-4510U
