Google is said to be working with hardware partners on two new Nexus smartphones. Huawei is reportedly building a model with a 5.7 inch display, while LG is developing an updated Nexus 5 with a 5.2 inch display.
A number of reports have given us some (occasionally contradictory) ideas of what kind of hardware to expect. Now we may have our first look at the design of the 2015 LG Nexus 5.
Update: Now there’s also a rendering of the upcoming Huawei Nexus 6… and a real-world photo that allegedly shows the new Nexus 5.
According to leaked designs obtained by @onleaks, and turned into images and video by uSwitch, the 2015 Nexus 5 will have a fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone, just below a camera that protrudes a bit from the case.
Volume and power buttons are on the side of the phone. There’s a USB Type-C port at the bottom. And there are stereo speakers facing the front.
The phone is said to have a 5.2 inch display and a body that measures 146.9mm x 72.9mm x 8mm at the thinnest point (although it’s 9.8mm at the thickest spot — which is the camera). That would make it a little taller and wider than the 2013 Nexus 5, but not much thicker.
The video and images aren’t actual photos of the phone. Instead they’re rendered images based on factory schematics. These are the designs sent to accessory makers interested in building cases and other hardware to work with a phone… so they should paint a fairly accurate picture if they’re legit. But the final phone might look a little different in real life.
For example, uSwitch says it’s not clear what materials will be used in the phone, so it could have an all-metal body, a plastic case, or some combination. It’s also not clear what color options will be available or what kind of textured finish the back of the phone will have.
Some reports have suggested the phone will have a full HD display, while others have proposed it could have a 2560 x 1440 pixel screen. It’s also unclear what processor the phone will use, but some reports have said it’ll pack a Snapdragon 808 processor, while other say it’ll be powered by a Snapdragon 820 chip (which seems unlikely, since that processor isn’t set to ship until 2016).
Google is expected to officially announce the phone in October or November.
