NVIDIA has been showing off a tiny laptop with a rather large and unsightly battery at trade shows around the globe for the last few months. But it’s not the battery which makes the Mobinnovaélan special. It’s the fact that it’s one of the first mini-laptops built around the NVIDIA Tegra platform which pairs a low power ARM-based processor with high performance NVIDIA graphics. The long and short of it is that this little guy can handle 1080p video playback and get excellent battery life.
In fact, NVIDIA says the Mobinnova élan can run for 5 to 10 hours while playing HD video. If you want to use the device for web surfing or other lighter weight tasks, you should be able to squeeze even more time out of the battery.
At an event in China, digi 163 got a chance to chat up the NVIDIA folks, who told them that the Mobinnova élan will cost about $299 US when it’s released. And when I spoke with some US NVIDIA officials last week, they told me that there are definitely plans to launch this particular model in the US in the not too distant future.
