The Nokia Lumia 635 is the first Nokia/Microsoft to ship with Windows Phone 8.1 software, and it’s coming to the United States starting this month.

T-Mobile and MetroPCS will offer the phone with prices starting at $99 for a contract-free phone.

Starting July 5th you’ll be able to pick up a Lumia 635 for use with a T-Mobile Simple Choice prepaid plan from the Home Shopping Network. On July 9th the phone will be available from T-Mobile.com. It hits T-Mobile retail stores July 16th and MetroPCS stores July 18th.

The Lumia 635 is a budget phone with a 4.5 inch, 854 x 480 pixel IPS display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of storage, a microSD card reader, a 5MP rear camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G and 4G LTE support.

It supports Microsoft’s Cortana digital assistant software, support for enhanced live tiles on the home screen, and a new Swype-like keyboard that lets you enter words by sliding your finger from letter to letter without lifting it.

AT&T is also planning to offer the Nokia Lumia 635 soon.

  2. Here’s hoping Galaxy S5 mini will be in the same price ballpark. Far better specs despite derision here, and “plus, no WinPhone OS.”

    1. I really don’t think that Samsung will offer the S5 mini for 100 of contract. They have a tendency to offer customers 0 down on an incredibly overpriced contract, similar to most large manufacturers.
