T-Mobile baseball tablet rentals

You know how baseball games can be long and boring? T-Mobile and the LA Angels have the answer: They’re partnering to rent out Android tablets to anyone attending a game, so you can watch Netflix while you’re at the park or something.

OK, actually the idea is that fans will get custom content on the tablets to enhance the experience. For instance, they’ll be able to view stats, watch instant replays, or read Major League Baseball news while they’re at the stadium.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 inch tablet and LG G-Slate 10 inch model will each be available for $10 per game. That price includes internet access using T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network and access free game-day program information, T-Mobile TV, and content from the Zinio magazine app including ESPN.

Overall it sounds like a pretty nice package whether you’re a huge baseball fan or you’re not… but you’re being dragged to a game by someone who is. It’s also not a bad way for T-Mobile, Samsung, and LG to gain wider exposure for their tablets.

  1. Wow this stinks of desperation. Gimmick? Completely. It seems to me that there are so many tablets sitting around the warehouse that they are needing to create a market. Manufacture a market and demand for a tablet. Tell me that your smartphone isn’t good enough for whatever they are planning with these tablets. What about the scoreboard? Not clear enough? I’m sure grease on the screen won’t be a problem. I’m sure drops by drunks won’t be a problem. Wow. To me this reeeeeeeks of desperation. You going to take that to the toilet with you?
