A few months ago Starbucks started offering free WiFi at all its US locations, along with a promise of exclusive content that would only be available to customers surfing the web at Starbucks hotpsots. Today that exclusive content went online. It’s called Starbucks Digital Network.

The network includes free access to the subscription versions of the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and USA Today web sites. There are also exclusive iTunes music downloads and access to Zagat reviews and ratings for free.

Other partners include GOOD Magazine, Nick Jr, Rodale, and SnagFilms.

It’s not just about getting access to free content that wouldn’t otherwise be available. The portal also includes local content from Patch, Foursquare, and Zagat, as well as nearby projects you can make charitable donations to using DonorsChoose.

Sure, the whole content portal is just designed to get you to spend more time at Starbucks locations and spend more money on food and beverages, and it might be cheaper to subscribe to a few newspapers and read them at your dining table over a cup of home-brewed coffee. But overall the Starbucks Digital Network looks like a pretty compelling offering for anyone who was probably going to camp out for a half hour in the local Starbucks before or after work anyway.
