Sony’s latest smartphone for the Japanese looks an awful lot like one the company has been offering internationally since last fall.
The new Sony Xperia A4 features a 4.6 inch HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, and a 20.7MP rear camera… just like the older Sony Xperia Z3 Compact.
The new model will be available exclusively through Japanese wireless carrier NTT DoCoMo when it launches this June.
As far as I can tell, the biggest difference between the new phone and its predecessor are the colors: the A4 comes in white, grey, pink, or blue while the Z3 Compact comes in black, white, green, and orange.
All told, the new phone’s familiar specs aren’t necessarily a bad thing: the phone is still probably one of the best Android handsets you can buy with a screen size smaller than 5 inches.
The phone sports 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a microSD card slot, support for 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and 4G LTE and it has a 2,600 mAh battery which should provide pretty long battery life (at least it does in the Z3 Compact).
Like many of Sony’s recent phones, the Xperia A4 is also a water and dust-resistant phone with flaps to cover most of its ports.
