Sony is introducing a new line of convertible tablets under the Sony Vaio Flip brand. Sporting 13, 14, and 15.5 inch displays, the computers look like notebooks at first glance, but thanks to an unusual design you can flip the screen so that it’s facing outward for use in tablet mode when you close the lid.
That’s because of an unusual design which lets you actually flip the screen 180 degrees by folding it over the lid. The design doesn’t require a huge bezel like you get with the Dell XPS 12 convertible, and your keyboard isn’t exposed in tablet mode the way it would be with a Lenovo Yoga laptop.
Sony’s 13 inch model weighs 2.6 pounds, while the 14 and 15.5 inch models are a bit heftier, at 4.2 pounds and 4.6 pounds, respectively.
Each model is available with an Intel Haswell chip with support for up to a Core i7 processor. Solid state and hybrid hard drive options are available, although the 13 inch model ships standard with an SSD. Sony also offers optional NVIDIA graphics on the 15.5 inch model.
Each version will be available with a 1920 x 1080 pixel IPS display, although Sony also plans to offer a 2880 x 1620 pixel display option for the 15.5 inch model.
Apparently a nice execution but for a computer glossy screen = bad screen. I would not be able to work right now if I hadn’t a matte display.
Great design, now can we have one with the best temash chip to keep the cost down?
