Skype 5.5 for Windows

Skype and Facebook have been getting cozy for the past year or so, first adding a feature to Skype’s desktop client that lets you make voice or video calls to your Facebook contacts, and then this summer Facebook added support for Skype calling to its web site.

Now Skype has rolled out an updated client for Windows that features even tighter Facebook integration. Skype 5.5 for Windows has a new Facebook tab in the contacts area that allows you to check and see which of your Facebook contacts are online and start chatting with them without leaving the app.

You can also use the main Skype window to update your Facebook status, view updates from your friends, or even like posts.

As Facebook clients go, Skype still leaves a bit to be desired. You can’t use the app to upload photos or leave comments on posts. But you can click on the name of any of your contacts to initiate a Skype call.

Skype 5.5 for Windows is available as a free download.
