Motorola’s first smartphone with a shatterproof display is now available in the US from Verizon Wireless. The wireless carrier is the exclusive provider of the Droid Turbo 2 in the United States. But Motorola has announced that the phone is coming soon to other markets, where it will be sold as the Moto X Force.

Like the Droid Turbo 2, the Moto X Force is a smartphone with a 5.4 inch, 2560 x 1440 pixel AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, a 21MP rear camera, and a 3,760 mAh battery with support for fast charging.

But the phone’s most unusual feature is the shatterproof screen which uses Motorola’s new ShatterShield technology. That consists of five layers including an aluminum core, flexible display, dual touch layer, and interior and exterior lenses. Drop the phone face down on concrete and the screen won’t crack or shatter… although under extreme pressure, it might dent.

Other features include 3GB of RAM, up to 64GB of storage, a microSD card slot, a front-facing speaker, a 5MP front camera, NFC, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, and support for 4G LTE.

Motorola says the phone should be available in Latin America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa starting in November.
