Backing up your data is always a good idea. But you know what’s even better? Making two backups including one that’s stored remotely so that if your house or office burns down with your computer and backup drive in it, you won’t lose all your data.

Now Amazon and Seagate have introduced a new portable hard drive that’s designed to do just that. Data you back up to the $100 Seagate Duet 1TB hard drive can be automatically uploaded to Amazon Cloud Drive for safe keeping.

When you buy the drive you also get a 1-year Amazon Drive susbcription, which is worth $60… which means that when your year is up you’ll have to pony up some extra cash. But the annual price is about the same as you’d pay for an individual cloud backup plan with Carbonite or Crashplan.

Amazon’s Cloud Drive apps also let you access backed up files using mobile or tablet apps or just about any device with a web browser.

The Seagate drive is up for pre-order and should begin shipping December 10th. It connects to your PC via a USB cable and works with PC or Mac.
