As expected, it looks like Toshiba is planning to launch a new 2-in-1 Windows tablet with a 10 inch display. What’s slightly less expected is that the Toshiba Satellite Click 10 appears to have specs that almost make it competitive with Microsoft’s Surface 3 tablet… but the Click 10 will have a lower price tag than Microsoft’s entry-level Surface.

Update: Toshiba is now selling the Satellite Click 10 for  $350 and up.

While the $499 Surface 3 tablet has a 10.8 inch, 1920 x 1280 pixel display, an Intel Atom X7-8700 processor, and 802.11ac WiFi, the Satellite Click 10 features a 10.1 inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel display, an Atom X5-Z8300 processor, and 802.11n WiFi.

Clearly, the Surface 3 has better specs… but Microsoft charges an extra $130 for a keyboard cover. The Toshiba Satellite Click 10, on the other hand, is expected to sell for around $449… and that price includes a keyboard dock.

Other features include 2GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, Bluetooth 4.1, an 8MP rear camera, a 2MP front camera, a micro HDMI port, micro USB 2.0 port, an SDXC card reader, stereo speakers, and a headset jack. There are also two full-sized USB 2.0 ports on the keyboard dock.

The Satellite Click 10 weighs about 2.4 pounds when used with a keyboard dock.

  1. unless it has wacom it’s just another tablet with attachable keyboard

  2. Too little, too late. By the time this comes out on September, the T100 Chi and the Dell Venue 10 Pro would hit <$300 and/or updated with better specs. Toshiba should have released this in the US in the Baytrail platform back in March to at least gain some brand momentum.

  3. Using the x5-8300 rather than the 8500 means no chance of 4 GB RAM unfortunately. Looks like too many compromises to be a good Surface competitor.

    1. Also, only 12 graphics execution units instead of 16 on the x7-Z8700

  4. Does this Satellite Click 10 support active stylus input? If not, I wouldn’t see it as a direct competitor to the Surface 3.

  5. Yuck! Old technology. USB2.0? Wireless-n? Doesn’t sound like that much of a Surface competitor to me. Sure, some of the good stuff is there, but it had better be a LOT cheaper than the Surface 3, considering the Surface 4 will likely drop sometime after this thing does and the S3 will be even cheaper, then. Consider the fact that with the Surface, you’re not just getting a better product, you’re also getting Microsoft’s flagship product line level of updates and support. Having an Asus Win8 tablet that was forgotten not long after it was released, I can attest that this is a big deal.
