Samsung’s principal engineer for IT and mobile, Seho Park, recently wrote a piece for the company’s blog that details the future of wireless charging and the role the Galaxy line will play in it.
Similar to the post Samsung’s head of Camera R&D wrote last week, Park summarizes the history of wireless charging over the past decade-and-a-half. He comments on the benefits of wireless charging, including cord-free convenience and multiple device usability.
He notes the importance of standardized wireless charging technologies, like the Qi standard and the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) standards. Samsung is a member of three organizations that support standardizing wireless charging, including the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), PMA, and the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP).
Without giving anything away, Park’s blog implies that Samsung is working toward incorporating technology in the next generation of the Galaxy S that will support a range of standards, including Qi, WPC, and PMA.
Thanks to chipmakers successfully integrating multiple standards onto a single chip, more charging devices will be compatible with more smartphones. Samsung plans to fully embrace the future of wireless charging by making all of its phones compatible with all standards.
“Samsung will accelerate to democratize this wireless charging technology with compelling smartphones,” Park writes. “With our upcoming Galaxy smartphones, users will be able to enter a new wireless world like never before.”
