Samsung has been offering a WiFi-only version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android tablet for a few weeks. But if you’ve been holding out for a model with a cellular modem, it looks like Verizon has got you covered. The company is taking pre-orders for a model with a 4G LTE modem with prices starting at $529.99.
The tablet won’t actually ship from Verizon for another 4-6 weeks, and in order to get the $530 price you’re going to need to sign up for a 2-year service contract which will seriously drive up the price of your tablet. Data plans range from $20 per month for 1GB to $80 per month for 10GB.
While a tablet that you can use virtually anywhere without relying on a WiFi-hotspot certainly seems attractive, I’d rather pay $499 for a WiFi-only tablet and hunt for access points at coffee shops and libraries than spend $1010 to $2450 over the life of the contract. How about you?
But, but Brad I’m bad at Maths, and I like to Facebook anywhere I want without having to get on some icky Wi-Fi network… Â They’re bad you know, you can get Firesheeped or something, I don’t know what but that’s what someone told me once…
Oh wait the intro price on this from Verizon is actually MORE than the Wi-Fi? Â So they’re not even fully subsizdizing their damn RADIO? Â and for that they want a 2 year contract??!?!?
