The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) is an tablet with a 7 inch display, a 1 GHz dual core processor, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich software. It has the same 1024 x 600 pixel display resolution as the original Galaxy Tab, but it has a much lower starting price of just $249.99.

That’s just $50 more than the price for an Amazon Kindle Fire or Barnes & Noble NOOK Tablet, but neither of those tablets comes with Android 4.0 or access to the hundreds of thousands of apps in the Google Play Store (although both tablets can be hacked to add those features).

Samsung’s new 7 inch tablet has 8GB of storage space, plus a microSD card slot for expansion. It has a VGA front-facing camera and a 3MP rear camera — something neither Amazon nor B&N’s tablets have.

The Samsung tablet supports 802.11b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0 wireless. It features a 4,000mAh battery and measures 7.6″ x 4.8″ x 0.41″ and weighs 0.76 pounds.

Pre-orders for the new tablet start tomorrow, and it should be available in the US on April 22nd.

Update: You can now order the tablet from Amazon for $249.99.

  1. Nook Tablet sales may take a hit, but then B&N is more interested in selling ebooks than Nooks anyway. Maybe they should get Samsung to preload the Nook app on the Galaxy Tab 2.

  2. I’d like to see the other specs.  For example, HDMI port, USB port(s).
    capacitive screen.

Not sure if this is a cost-reduced (de-contented) version of the earlier Samsung 7″ tabs.  At least it will put downward pricing pressure on the prior models’ refurbs, making them more affordable.

Assuming all other specs are similar, aside from the 8 GB starting hard disk storage, Samsung could have a blockbuster on its hands.

  3. So the Samsung Tab 7 Plus is better than the new one?

    1.  Especially considering this is coming from a company not known for lowest pricing and don’t have service oriented profit to compensate them against any loss of hardware sales profits like Amazon and B&N have.
