The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 runs Google Android 3.1. That means the operating system has built-in USB host capabilities, allowing you to plug in peripherals such as a keyboard, mouse, or gamepad. But you’ll need an adapter to do that because the Galaxy Tab 10.1 doesn’t have a full sized USB port.

Now Samsung has unveiled a new $19.99 adapter which will let you convert the proprietary port on the bottom of the 10 inch tablet into a USB port.  The adapter will let you plug in a USB flash drive or peripheral devices.

This is the kind of peripheral you won’t need with the Toshiba Thrive tablet which is expected to launch next month, since the Thrive has a full sized USB port. But that’s something that’d be tough to fit on a tablet as slim as the 0.34 inch Galaxy Tab 10.1.

  2. I’m trying to decide whether I want a 10.1 in Honeycomb tablet or the HTC Flyer, maybe even Samsung 8.1.  I think this info knocked the Samsung off the list, I’d go with the Acer.

  3. I think that ACER A500 has a full size USB port, isn’t it? And the piooner in many areas, the Notiion Ink Adam was launched many months ago with TWO full size USB ports
