Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

After kicking things off with a very limited launch at a single Best Buy location in New York City, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 goes on sale across the country tomorrow.

You should be able to pick up the 10 inch Android tablet for $499 and up from Best Buy, Fry’s Amazon, Newegg, TigerDirect, and Micro Center.

On paper the tablet doesn’t look all that different from any other tablet running Google Android 3.1 Honeycomb. It has a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel resolution display, a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor, and 16GB or more of storage space. The tablet will come in 3G and WiFi models, but only the WiFi version will be available tomorrow.

What sets the Galaxy Tab 10.1 apart from other tablets right now is the super-slim design. It measures just 8.6mm or about 0.34 inches thick. It’s also the lightest 10 inch tablet around, weighing just 1.25 pounds. That makes it thinner and lighter than Apple’s 9.7 inch iPad 2.

The slim design and light weight might seem like a gimmick at first, but the truth is that this is the most comfortable 10 inch tablet I’ve held for reading web pages or eBooks, playing games, or watching movies. It also looks pretty nice.

On the other hand, there’s no SD card slot and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 has a proprietary docking port instead of a standard USB or micro USB jack.

You can check out a new promo video from Samsung after the break.

  1. I want an eInk tech tablet.  So I’ll wait for the Samsung to use some of that “Liquavista” technology for their tablets. I’m not sure when they will be, but it could be only in 12 months away?  Or, 18 months at most?

Understand, I think this tablet is GREAT and people should buy it; but my needs are for a device that is good in sunshine.

  2. The Best Buy in Union Square will have them. They have had a Samsung rep there for the past 3 weeks. He even told me to wait for the 32G version that will be available tomorrow. They have the 16G version on sale right now.

  3. I went to best buy(upstate NY) yesterday, and was told that they can’t say specifically what day they will have them for sale. They did hint to Sunday would be a safe bet for a day to check. My guess is that they want to ship out their online orders first.

      1. Online is my best guess. From doing some searches it seems to be hit or miss as to which bestbuy stores are selling it tomorrow. I called again, and was told they “think” there was a delay in shipping.

  4. I just got off the phone with eleven different Best Buys in my state and without exception they all said that they will not be selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tomorrow (Friday 6/17). Does anyone know what’s going on with this??
