Samsung is holding an event on August 13th where the company is expected to unveil the Galaxy Note 5. But the company may also introduce another phone, called the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.

We got our first look at the phones when Evan Blass posted a leaked picture last week. Now he’s shared another image showing an odd little accessory: a keyboard that clips onto the bottom of the Galaxy S6 Edge.

The Edge 6 Plus is expected to have the same basic specs as the Galaxy 6 Edge, but it’ll have a roughly 5.7 inch display instead of a 5.1 inch screen.

The clip-on keyboard looks like something out of smartphone history, complete with thumb-sized QWERTY keyboard, designated number keys that you can use to dial phone numbers, and special character keys.

There are also a few modern touches including a microphone icon, emoticon button, and home, back, and recents buttons below the keyboard.

Basically it looks like a phone for someone that would prefer a classic BlackBerry or Palm Treo-style phone if only those devices ran Android Lollipop.

  1. Well with the new BB10 slider (with Samsung influenced curved screen – they did some joint development) rumored to run Android and some technology swaps, I’m not surprised that Samsung went with this keyboard add-on. I also don’t think BlackBerry will be too upset since this was their way of playing nicely with Samsung. I am looking forward to seeing how the BlackDroid slider looks and works though. No one knows if BlackBerry is dropping BB10 outright and going full-on Android or what…I do love tactile keyboards though and look to retire my virtual keyboard Z10. I wish Samsung and BlackBerry did more co-development…

  2. It is an ugly keyboard, but I like the concept. I hate using virtual keyboards. Android sliders have become very scarce, and there were never many of decent quality. I have learned to speak clearly (and.pause.briefly.between.each.word) so the voice input is near 100% accurate. Voice input is awkward to use though when other people are around, like when I’m sexting in line at the grocery store. A clip on keyboard would be handy for situations like that.

  3. So it becomes a S6 edge without the keyboard? Or can you buy a S6 edge and the key board separately and use them together? or not? Transformers! More than meets the eyes!! loll

  4. Just add shoe attachments for heel-bellows-driven “charge as you walk” and maybe clip-on pneumatic hose “earphones” and you have the first Raspberry Pi inspired phone. Ahh, there’s nothing like more Rube Goldberg Technology!

  5. That keyboard is probably the worst looking device I’ve seen from Samsung.

Also, didnt some iPhone accessory company get sued a while ago for making a keyboard that copied those same ‘raised corner’ keys that Blackberry apparently has patented?

    1. History has shown that Samsung gives zero f—ks when it comes to these kind of matters.

    2. Yes, BB won that sue. Twice.
It seems that only Blackberry knows how to do physical keyboard. Unfortunately they don’t know how to lure app devs…
