Samsung’s new ATIV Q is a convertible notebook that bears a more-than-passing resemblance to Acer’s Aspire R7 convertible. At first glance it looks like a notebook, but you can also change the position of the touchscreen display to use the computer as a tablet or a presentation device.

Unlike Acer’s Aspire R7 though, the Samsung ATIV Q features an Intel Haswell processor and a higher-than-HD display. Oh yeah, and it also runs both Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Windows 8.

Samsung ATIV Book Q

The ATIV Q features a 13.3 inch, 3200 x 1800 pixel display with 275 pixels per inch, an Intel Core i5 Haswell processor with Intel HD 4400 graphics, 4GB of RAM, and a 128GB solid state disk.

Weighing just 2.84 pounds and measuring less than 0.6 inches thin, the ATIV Q is also much more portable than Acer’s device — and Samsung is promising up to 9 hours of battery life for the ATIV Q.

And while the Acer Aspire R7 places the touchpad awkwardly above the keyboard, Samsung takes an old-school approach to figuring out where the trackpad should go: there isn’t one. The Samsung ATIV Q has an optical pointing stick in the center of the keyboard and physical buttons below the keyboard which you can use to move an on-screen cursor. Or you can just poke the multitouch display with your fingers.

The computer has 1 USB 2.0 port, 1 USB 3.0 port, a micro HDMI port, HDMI output, and an SD card slot.
