The Samsung Ativ Book M is an 11.6 inch notebook with an Intel Celeron Bay Trail processor and up to 8 hours of battery life. It’s available in South Korea for about 790,000 Won or about $767 US.

While that makes this notebook a bit expensive compared with other Bay Trail notebooks, the Ativ Book M has a few features that could help justify the price.

The notebook is powered by an Intel Celeron N2830 dual-core Bay Trail processor and features 4GB of RAM and a 128GB solid state drive. It’s a fanless system which should run silently since it relies on passive cooling and an SSD with no moving parts.

Like Samsung’s recent Chromebook laptops, the Ativ Book M also appears to have fake stitched leather on the lid.

The Windows 8.1 notebook has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, stereo speakers, HDMI output, 1 USB 3.0 port, 1 USB 2.0 port, a microSD card reader, and a 30Whr battery. The notebook measures 0.66 inches thick and weighs about 2.6 pounds.

It’s not clear if Samsung plans to offer the Ativ Book M in the US or Europe or how much it would cost in those markets if it does become available. But don’t be surprised if we hear more about this little laptop at the IFA trade show in Berlin next month.

  1. Thank You Liliputing for reporting on this. We also need know who is trying to rip us off!

  2. Why not just get a macbook air if it’s around the same price in Korea?

  3. I just bought the Acer Aspire E11 for $200 from Bestbuy. Basically same as this, with same SoC (Cel N2830) but regular HDD. I think people are confused about pricing. Each region has different price norms, and abovementioned price isn’t for US. I greatly doubt this would ever be marketed to US anyway, since Samsung would have to compete against the low-end leaders like Acers and Asus.

  4. No justification for price; I bought a 14 inch 1600×900 ultrabook with the same specs for $600 (including taxes & shipping) two yrs ago. It runs great. Customers might be fooled but market cannot be.

  5. So what exactly are the features that justify the price again?

    1. Certainly not the “HD” display. 1366×768 is a fail on anything bigger than a midrange smartphone. If the Nexus 7 can offer full HD for just over $200 there’s no excuse anymore

      1. I live in Korea. The people are getting ripped off daily on electronics. This is a prime example.
