Samsung already offers a line of low-cost Galaxy Tab Android tablets and a higher-priced Galaxy Tab Pro series with faster CPUs, better screens, and other premium specs. But it looks like two Android tablet lines might not be enough.

According to SamMobile, Samsung is preparing to launch a new line of tablets with 2560 x 1600 pixel AMOLED displays. They’ll come in 8.4 inch and 10.5 inch sizes and be part of the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S series.

These would be the first devices to ship with AMOLD screens at WXGA resolutions. Samsung has been offering lower-resolution AMOLED displays in select smartphones for years, and the screens have a reputation for offering high-contrast visuals with dark blacks and saturated colors.

SamMobile also says the Tab S models will have fingerprint sensors like the one found on the Samsung Galaxy S 5 smartphone, and the tablets will feature Samsung Exynos 5420 octa-core processors, 3GB of RAM, 8MP rear cameras, 2MP front-facing cameras, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, Bluetooth, and IR blaster features.

In other words, don’t expect these new tablets to be as cheap as the lower-quality Galaxy Tab 4 series.

  1. They will probably be expensive. But screens will be luscious. Biggest bad thing from Sammy is their KNOX and locked bootloaders. They gotta drop it. Or enable unlocking for enthusiasts.
