Porsche may be a name best known for expensive cars. But recently the company ventured into expensive smartphone territory by partnering with Huawei on a €1,395 ($1,477) Porsche Design edition of the Mate 9 smartphone.
Now Porsche Design is launching a convertible notebook called the BOOK ONE.
As you’ve probably guessed, it’s a premium device with high-end specs and a high-end price tag: the computer is launching in April for $2,495 in the US or €2,795 in Europe.
Update: The BOOK ONE is up for pre-order from Newegg.
While the spec sheet looks pretty good, and the design is reasonably attractive, there is one thing that truly makes the Porsche Design BOOK ONE stand out: It’s both a convertible notebook with a 360-degree hinge and a detachable tablet with a keyboard that can be removed when you don’t need it.
That gives you the choice of taking the keyboard with you or leaving it at home. It’s basically like a Microsoft Surface Book… with an even more versatile hinge.

The BOOK ONE features a 13.3 inch, 3200 x 1800 pixel IPS display, an Intel Core i7-7500U Kaby Lake processor, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of PCIe solid state storage, stereo speakers, and a 5MP webcam with support for Windows Hello secure logins. Porsche Design says you should be able to get up to 14 hours of battery life.
It supports 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1, and the tablet has a headset jack and a Thunderbolt 3/USB Type-C port. The keyboard section has two full-sized USB 3.0 ports and a USB 3.1 Type-C port as well as a microSD card slot.

The computer also comes with a Wacom pen that supports up to 2,048 levels of pressure-sensitive input and which docks to the side of the tablet via a magnetic connection, and the keyboard base features a precision touchpad.
The tablet has an aluminum body and measures about 12.3″ x 8.3″ .0.3″Â and weighs 1.7 pounds. Add the keyboard and you have a notebook that measures 12.3″ x 8.9″ x 0.6″ and weighs 3.5 pounds.
