I learned two interesting things from this week’s poll. First, more than half of the folks who responded plan to buy a new mini-laptop within the next 3 months, but only a small percentage plan to pick one up this month. I’ll chalk this up to the fact that the most exciting new netbooks like the Eee PC 901/1000/1000H, Acer Aspire One, and MSI Wind aren’t yet widely available.
The MSI Wind is due out today, but so far I haven’t seen any sign of it at any online retailers. I might make a field trip into Manhattan later today if I can track it down anywhere.
The other thing I learned today? The polls I’ve been using look like crap with my new template. I’ll probably try using a third party service for this week’s poll.
As always, thanks for participating!
Now reports no delivery on Wind until June 27, company can’t keep their promises or delivery dates, glad I’m waiting for Dell and Aspire One. I understand companies are better for build and service.
So where is the ‘One’?? I want it now!!
As Dave points out, it looks like MSI has pushed the release back to June
27th:

I’m surprised how many said they will buy in the next 3 months. I just bought an Eee 900 and I’m not in a hurry to buy something else. The Eee is a little small, and for my next laptop I’ll likely get a 10-12 inch, but I’ll probably wait until next year.
MSI has already dropped the ball on supply and demand. They were on the msicomputer storefront for like 5 minutes, then taken off. The 6-cell model won’t be available until July. I planned on ordering the windows model just for the bluetooth, 6-cell battery, and memory upgrade out of the box. Now that the linux model will be out about the same time, I might even consider waiting for it as I prefer linux anyway. This is disappointing to say the least. MSI has fallen into the trap that the Cloudbook fell into as far as not being able to deliver the product on time.
Brad,
Hope you find one today. Look forward to the juicy unboxing photos.
today if someone can find Winds on sale.. I thought they were shipping today
I want the Aspire first, then wait for Dell and get one of those too, yea, sounds very economy stimulating but I have promised a mini to my lady friend and want to try them both out before I decide which to give to her, LOL!!
Wish they’d just ‘getter done’
Waiting to see what Dell comes out with which should be the most Ubuntu compatible.
From the limited info from Dell, their low end will be 200 less than the eee pc 901. There is some chance that by the fall they will put one out that has a Wimax chip.
Any good ideas for where the Wind may show up? I’m in Manhattan, and I’d love to pick one up… Either in person or online, but waiting for shipping is no fun…
I’ve been keeping an eye on J&R, Datavision, B&H, and RCS.
