A few months ago Polaroid introduced a line of tablets running Google Android 2.2 and Android 2.3. Now it looks like the company is getting ready to release a new model sporting Google’s latest software.

The Polaroid PMID701i showed up recently at the FCC website. It’s a 7 inch tablet with Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

While the operating system is new, the rest of the specs are pretty lousy. The tablet includes:

  • 7 inch, 800 x 480 pixel display
  • 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 CPU
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4GB storage

The good news is the PMID701i does feature a capacitive multitouch display, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and a microSDHC card for extra storage. Polaroid says the tablet should get up to 6 hours of battery life while surfing the web, or 5 hours while watching videos with WiFi disabled.

While the tablet sports Android 4.0 goodies such as a new tabbed web browser and user interface, it does not appear to be a Google certified device. It ships without the Google Play Store, and the user manual instead suggested downloading the Amazon Appstore in order to install third party apps.

There’s no word on the price for this tablet yet, but given the specs, my money would be on really, really cheap.

  1. I got the version with the capacitive screen and camera. No problem with wiFi and it seems to be a good deal for $100. Only issue was that MANY apps from the amazon store do not work on the tablet. It is a tablet problem, not the apps. The folks at amazon say they continuously have an issue with the Polaroid tablet not running apps. Still many do work. I returned mine and will wait for a better product offering in Winter 2012. Prices are coming down, with more memory, features etc.

  2. I purchased this tablet over the weekend and love it! It didn’t cost hundreds of dollars. I haven’t had any problems with apps. Netflix and kindle both downloaded fine. I have had no issues with WiFi either. I have a laptop but it’s nice being able to put this in my purse. I mainly got it to read e-books but got the bonus of saving money over the Kindle Fire and still have all the abilities of the Kindle.

  3. I got this tablet last week as a gift. I still can’t download Netflix. It constantly disconnects me from my WiFi. It is really SLOW so I constantly hv to go to my HTC phone when I need to search anything. It doesn’t hv an app store and u hv to download the Amazon market app. Which I did, but I hvnt been able to download any other apps. I am so Freaking frustrated! Yes its cheap (about $85 @ Big Lots) but its not worth the headache when my phone does the exact same thing….only 100x faster. don’t waste your money.
    I’m taking back today

  4. Great Tablet!!! I got it from big lots for $99.99 its a 4.0 ics it doesn’t get any better the only thing is it doesn’t come with a market so I search how to download play store market to polarold tablet? The search came up the digital reader go to the one that says Polaroid’s New Android 4.0 ICS Tablet is Now in Stores (And in my …

  5. It looks exactly like the 2.3 model and we got it at work last week (US). Just got the it today for $99.99 regular price and while I want to love it… It keeps disconnecting me with my wifi. I have lots of wifi things and I’ve never had this kind of issue. It won’t allow you to turn it back on until you turn it off totally. After four times in an hour… I’m considering taking it back. I tried looking online for advice and thought that maybe I’m missing something like a switch to keep it connected (idk) but I’m pretty good with electronics and this is driving me crazy. Not to mention, I put Angrybirds on it and it does well with that but the netflix picture is TERRIBLE. After viewing youtube on it, I’m getting the impression that it’s videos in general. Haven’t tried much more on it but I’m gonna sleep on it and see what I think tomorrow.

    1. Yeah, I’ve decided to take mine back. If I’m not 100% happy with it, I’m sure there is another I’d be happier with.

  6. im tired of hearing about products that never seem to become available ,or are twice the price as they say they are going to be..stop the rumor mill………
