Ouya isn’t the only company that thinks a $99 video game console for bringing mobile games to your TV is a good idea. Sony has unveiled a tiny game console that lets you play games designed for the portable PlayStation Vita console on a big screen.

It’s called the PlayStation Vita TV, and it’s expected to go on sale in Japan in November for about $100.

Not only can you use the little guy to play PS Vita games on your TV, but it’s also a relatively inexpensive way to bring the internet to your TV.

It supports the Sony Music Unlimited and Sony Video Unlimited subscription-based media services, as well as Hulu, Twitter, Sony Reader (for eBooks), and some other Japanese media services including Tsutaya TV and Nico Nico Douga.

If you have a Sony PlayStation 4 in one room of your house, you can also use the PlayStation Vita TV as an extender, letting you play PS4 games in a different room.

Not every PlayStation Vita game will run on the Vita TV. Games that involve touchscreen controls, for instance, won’t work because the DualShock controller doesn’t have a touch surface. You can find a list of supported titles at the PlayStation Japan website.

The PlayStation Vita TV measures about about 3.9″ x 2.4″ and features Ethernet, USB, HDMI, and memory card slots. You can use an ordinary PlayStation controller with the tiny console, or you can pay a little extra (around $150) for a bundle that incldues a storage card and a controller.

  1. Too bad the Vita catalog is a poor one… worst 200€ I’ve ever spent (at least I’m not paying for any games (PS Plus subscription)).

  2. No support for 1080p? That’s insane. This has to be a mistake. I can’t believe the hardware isn’t capable of decoding 1080p H.264 in hardware and outputting it at full resolution, something even the lowly Raspberry Pi can do. Games at 1080p might be another story though.

  3. Oooh. Time to check out the games on Vita. I never checked out the Vita because I don’t really play games on the go but I’d play games at home. Seeing that Android games arent that great. At least for what I’m looking for: a plot that doesn’t have to be original but engaging, character development and interaction that just pulls you into the game. Graphics aren’t a major thing for me as long as it’s not Nintendo graphics.

    1. Seriously? its vita.Meaning same sony os as the regular one and same specs but with out a screen and has hdmi( quad core cortex a9, power vr 543mp4)
