Don’t need a dual core processor or camera on your Apple tablet? Then it looks like you can save $100. While the Apple iPad 2 doesn’t go on sale until March 11th, you can pick up a first-generation iPad today for $399. Refurb models are going for as little as $349.

That’s the price for the 16GB WiFi version of the tablet. But the price cut is across the board. That means a 64GB iPad with WiFi and 3G will now run you $729 instead of $829.

The original iPad is a bit thicker and heavier than the second-generation model, but it’s still pretty thin and light weighing in at just 1.5 pounds and 0.5 inches thick. It’s got a 1 GHz Apple A4 processor and the same 25Whr battery and 1024 x 768 pixel display as the new model.

  1. Brad, how come in your comparison in your other entry, you did not put the Archos Arnova 10 in the charts? At $200, it might blow away even the ipad, zoom and others.

    1. Two reasons:

      1. If you look at the image credit, I didn’t create the chart. I was lazy and snagged it from Laptop Magazine (I could have made one myself, but my design skills are pretty much nonexistent, so it would have taken all day).

      2. It’s not really in the same class. It has a slower CPU, no official support for the Android Market, no 3G option, etc…

  2. Now it is down to where – according to the tablet price survey – most would want to pay for a tablet pc. I think the older ones would sell rather quickly; IMO.

    1. I suspect many of the respondents are not in fact interested in tablets. Probably because they don’t see the value – they are don’t fill a role that is not already served by their phones and laptops. That’s why I think the survey showed rather unrealistic low price expectations. Most of the respondents paid more for phones that have less capability
