The Oppo N1 smartphone features a large 5.9 inch display, a speedy Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor, and an unusual camera which rotates to face the front or back of the phone.
It’s also the first phone to be available with a choice of two types of Android: Oppo’s Color OS or CyanogenMod.
Oppo’s new phone launches this month in China, and unlike some of the company’s earlier handsets, the Oppo N1 is also coming to the US and Europe.
Oppo has announced that starting December 10th you’ll be able to pick up an Oppo N1 in the US for $599. It’ll sell for €449 in Europe.
That’s not exactly cheap, but the phone is competitively priced with unlocked handsets from HTC, Samsung, LG, and Sony… although you can pick up a decent phone for far less if you go with a Google Nexus 4 or Motorola Moto G.
The Oppo N1 has a 1920 x 1080 pixel display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB to 32GB of storage, and a 13MP camera. On any other phone, it’d be the camera that sets this phone apart, but on the Oppo N1 its also the software.
Color OS is a custom version of Android which supports touchscreen gestures such as using a 3 finger swipe to open the camera. There’s also a touch-sensitive area on the back of the phone that you can use to control certain apps. For example, you could skip tracks while using a media player by swiping the back of the phone.
CyanogenMod is also a custom version of Android — but it’s one that started its life as a tweaked version of Android Open Source Project software developed by hobbyists. Earlier this year the lead developers formed a company and started looking for hardware partners to team up with, and Oppo is the first.
The CyanogenMod software looks a lot like the stock version of Android you’d get on a Nexus phone, but it includes more customization options, performance tweaks, and a few custom apps. Out of the box, the version of CyanogenMod that will come with the Oppo N1 will not include root access, but it will be possible for users to root their devices manually.

I’m tempted to grab one for the ColorOS (Vanilla Android, is so 2010), and the camera, but I would have to give up an extra GB of Ram, a newer processor, and 4G LTE, which all come with the Note 3. The price difference isn’t big.
wich 2.6 gb of ram used by touchwiz. AHHAHA new processor???????????????????????????????? THE OPPO FIND 7A HAS THE SNAPDRAGON 801 AND THE NOTE 3 HAS THE OLDER VERSION (THE SNAPDRAGON 800) SHUT UP.
