onkyo dx

In the market for a netbook with two side-by-side displays? Then I hope you live in Japan. Because the only two models I’ve seen are only available in that country. Actually, calling them two models is a bit of a misnomer, Onkyo’s recently announced DX netbook appears to be a rebranded version of the Kohjinsha DZ. And I doubt we’ll see either of these sold internationally anytime soon (although you can pick them up from companies that export Japanese laptops at premium prices such as Conics and GeekStuff4u).

Anyway, while the Kohjinsha model currently has two 1024 x 600 pixel displays, the Onkyo version packs dual 1366 x 768 HD screens. You also get a 1.6GHz AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 CPU, ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics, 2GB -4GB of RAM, and a 320GB hard drive. The Onkyo DX also packs 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, Ethernet, and 3 USB ports. It runs Windows 7 Home Premium and has a starting price of ¥84,800 or about $961 US.

Of course, that makes this computer awfully expensive for a netbook. But laptops generally tend to cost more in Japan. If it’s ever release in the US, the price tag could conceivably drop to about $750 or lower. I’m not holding my breath though.

  1. I’d pay $650 for a duel screen computer like that//but even at the price I’d be reluctantly doing so. But $650 seems fair to both sides. On the other hand $750 is outright theft, and over $900 is simply adding insult to injury.

I do have to say though that opening that up at the coffee shop would gain me accolades. Nerdy chicks would want me…Nerds guys would want to ‘be’ me.
